FOLLOWING her spring success in winning the Ladies’ County Championship, Worcestershire teenager Lucy Walton has lifted two more prestigious golf titles.

She won the Malvern Wells club’s Ladies’ Championship and two days later won the County Girls’ Junior Championships at Cleobury Mortimer after being pushed all the way by fellow county player Ciara Kelly.

Walton, 15, took the title with a gross score of 152, one stroke ahead of Hagley’s Kelly.

It was the second time in three years Walton has held the county ladies’ and county girls’ titles concurrently.

This time, she qualifies to be the under 16s representative in the Midland Champion of Champions tournament at The Nottinghamshire in September.

Walton was also runner-up in the Welsh Under 16s Championships – this means she will now go on to play in the Faldo Series Championships in Colorado, USA, in October.

A total of 14 ladies took part in The Worcestershire’s 36-hole Ladies’ Club Championship.

With the course in excellent condition and the greens testingly fast, Walton comfortably retained her title with an excellent gross score of 161.

She finished ahead of the consistent county second team captain Cath Francis on 167. Chris Urry won the 36-hole nett prize to lift the Scott Cup with a score of 149 ahead of Jane Poynder (153).

Meanwhile, several guest players came from far and wide to participate in the men’s invitation day at The Worcestershire.

With two pairs carding 43 stableford points, county player Steven Lane and guest A Watkins, from The Bells in Coleford, lifted the Hope Cup ahead of former club chairman Alan Watts and D McPherson from Worcester Golf and Country Club.

Tom Howells and M Madden (Bransford) were third and Mike Sterry and M Embrey (Alexander Park) fourth, both on 42.

Andy Fleming and G Anderson (Portlethan) took fifth place. The gross prize was won by Paul Yorke and G Wallace (Bransford).

Home club members Liz Evans, Pat Longley and Mo Riley won a well-supported senior ladies’ open with a score of 79 points, one stroke ahead of The Warwickshire’s C Rhodes, K Gebbels and P Heath.

Joan Haworth led her team members, J Enderby of Broadway and A Carter of Feldon Valley, to third place with 75.

The Worcestershire members Jill Exell, Veronica Shaw and Kate Cross lifted the prize for a team of ladies all over 70 years of age with 73 points.

An 18-hole stableford competition was won by Ruth Scott with 35 points.

Following her home in the Silver Division were Pauline Belsham (34) and Jane Tromans (30).

Pam Emery-Reynolds took the Bronze Division with 34, ahead of Vivienne Marsden and Jennifer Musson.

The Copper Division was won by Jenny Jones with 31 from Sharon Williams and Isobel Carmichael.

In foursomes competitions, Walton and April Wilding won the final of the Tankard foursomes summer knock-out from Tina Jukes and Anne Garner.

In the Daily Mail stroke play competition, Jukes and Wilding joined forces to take the honours with 30 points on count-back from Cathy Harris and Elsie Kelsall and Exell and June Jones.
