CRICKET clubs have a big Bank Holiday with a double-header as promotion and relegation issues hot up.

It will be a key period for Malvern and Bromyard if they are to escape their respective relegation zones in the Worcestershire League.

Malvern crashed back down to earth after beating Division Two basement boys Rushwick with a 120-run thrashing at Wormelow.

The Regency Road club are still second-from-bottom, 31 points off Feckenham and safety, ahead of tomorrow’s home game with Burghill and Tillington and Monday’s visit to Bewdley (both 1pm).

But both opponents are in the top two so Malvern will have to up their game if they are to stave off the threat of relegation with three fixtures left afterwards.

Wormelow skittled Malvern out for just 44 after the hosts reached 164 all out when Neil Thompson took 4-29 in 14.4 overs.

Only Thompson (12) and Jeremy Lee (12) could reach double figures out of the Malvern batsmen.

Bottom-of-the-table Bromyard remain deep in Division One relegation danger after being held to a losing draw at Flaggoners Green by fifth-placed Hagley.

The Herefordshire side were left four runs short of victory with two wickets in hand after Hagley were dismissed for 223.

The reply was based around Dave Taylor (75) and Josh Tongue (46), while Will Yarnold earlier took 4-61.

But Bromyard are still only 12 points off third-from-bottom Harvington, who they visit tomorrow (1pm), and were helped by Colwall, who beat relegation rivals Evesham by eight wickets.

Fourth-placed hosts Colwall won the toss and Jon Gooch (3-26) paved the way for spinner Wehan Joubert, who took 6-18 in 12.2 overs to skittle Evesham for 125.

Joubert scored 19 before Sam Crichard, recalled to the first XI after successive second-team centuries, cracked an unbeaten 51.

He shared an unbroken stand of 102 with Rory Jones (49 not out) as Colwall cruised home in the 26th over.

Third-placed Worcester Nomads beat Droitwich Spa by 97 runs in Bransford after amassing 290-6.

David White scored 109 and Rich Henry 80 before Dom Badger took 4-53 and Henry 4-49 in Spa’s 193 all out.

Bromyard host Pedmore on Monday, while Colwall head to Hagley tomorrow and host Harvington on Monday.

Nomads visit second-placed Pershore tomorrow and entertain Evesham on Monday.
