ENGLAND women’s academy star Georgia Hennessy is set to make her Birmingham and District Premier Cricket League first XI debut with Barnards Green.

The 17-year-old all-rounder has been named in the XI who head to Smethwick in Division One tomorrow (noon) looking to get back to winning ways.

She became the first female cricketer to hit a century in the Birmingham League last summer, blasting 114 not out for the seconds.

Hennessy has continued to play for the North End Lane club’s second string and scored 37 batting at number three in a seven-wicket defeat at Astwood Bank on Saturday.

Eighth-placed Green have struggled for wins lately and had the worst of an eight-point draw at home to struggling Oswestry last weekend.

The visitors won the toss and chose to bat first, amassing 277-5.

Openers Warrick Fynn and Alex Huxley started well before Alex Hepburn tempted the latter to be caught behind by Alex Milton for 15.

Captain George Rhodes trapped Joe Clarke lbw for 21 in his second over but Fynn and Robbie Clarke provided the backbone for the innings.

Eventually, Robbie Clarke tried one big hit too many and was bowled by Hepburn (2-88) for 59 off 72 balls.

Matt Gregson and Fynn continued the big hitting as Oswestry surged past 250.

Fynn’s fine innings ended when he holed out to Jon Dovey off Mark Hardinges (2-61) for 109 with 14 fours and one six.

Gregson (39) was smartly stumped by Milton but Oswestry reached an imposing 277-5 off 55 overs.

Knowing they had to maintain a run-rate of more than five-an-over, Rhodes and Andrew Curtis started well.

Rhodes (12) was trapped lbw but Curtis and Hepburn put pressure on the bowlers, passing 200 in the 43rd over.

Green needed 78 off 12 overs but the batsmen fell in consecutive overs to end their 177-run partnership.

Curtis was caught off Mark Robinson (3-62) for 97, including 12 fours, and Hepburn trapped lbw by Gregson (3-26) with seven fours and two sixes in his 93. Green suffered a collapse but held out on 255-8.
