COLWALL moved to the top of Worcestershire Cricket League Division One after a narrow two-wicket success over fellow high-fliers Pedmore.

A fine all-round display from South African Wehan Joubert was instrumental in their success ahead of Saturday’s visit to lowly Redditch.

The spinner snared 6-56 as, assisted by Max Backhouse (3-50), he played a major role in bowling Pedmore out for 227. Then, with Colwall on 107-7, Joubert’s 47 stabilised the innings.

There was still work to do when he was dismissed at 178-8 but Frederick Coleman (48 not out) and Jon Gooch (19 not out) guided Colwall home.

Second-from-bottom Bromyard continued to struggle in Division One after a 21-run home loss to Redditch, despite 46 runs and 5-78 from Ahmed Jamal and 71 from Ash Bullock. They visit Pershore on Saturday.

Malvern, who host Enville on Saturday (1pm), are in a similar position in Division Two after losing by four wickets at Coombs Wood.

They were dismissed for 182 with Andy Cullen (72) top-scoring and Wood replied with 183-6.

Meanwhile, Colwall also lead Second XI Division One and their thirds top Division Eight.
