ENTRIES have now opened for the first ever Junior Upton Run, on the same day as the town’s popular triathlon.
It will take place at 11am on Saturday, July 12, on Fish Meadow, Upton-upon-Severn, just before the sell-out Upton Triathlon.
Organiser Jessica Kitt said: “We’re really excited about the kids’ race and have already had nearly 50 entries.
“There is a one-kilometre timed race for over four-year-olds and we’ve even got a 100-metre race for children of four or under with adult assistance permitted.
“Local fitness trainers from Xtreme Boot Camps will be leading a pre-race warm-up and every finisher will get a medal.
“We will also have fun stalls from Upton-upon-Severn C of E Primary School, refreshments and of course the opportunity to cheer on the triathletes as they swim down the river, transition onto their bikes and then return for the run.”
Entries will be accepted on the day for the junior contests but they cannot be guaranteed a medal.
The 100m event costs £3 and the one kilometre is £5.
The eighth Upton triathlon, which begins at 12.30pm, is full this year already and will raise more than £2,500 for 2014 local charity of choice, Worcester’s St Richard’s Hospice.
However, volunteer marshals are still needed to help make the event a success.
There is free parking for the day on Fish Meadow.
