MALVERN’S Velo Club Sevale are running their annual ‘Come and Try It’ time trial from Hanley Swan village green next Tuesday.

Cyclists of all standards are welcome to give the flat 5.5-mile course a go from 7pm in a race against the clock over the set distance.

Riders can use any sort of bike and are asked to sign on from 6.30pm onwards.

The trial would normally cost £3 but on this occasion is free. Competitors will then be allocated a number to pin on their back and set off at one-minute intervals.

Marshals will be keeping an eye on the action around the course and cold drinks are available at the finish.

There will also be prizes, provided by Malvern’s Back on Track Cycles for fastest time trial novice, junior under 16, lady, veteran of 40 years or over and quickest on a mountain bike.

Riders must be aged 12 or over to ride alone, but there is no minimum age for those travelling on the back of a tandem or on a trailer-bike with an adult.

A parental consent form must be completed for riders under 18, who must wear a helmet to participate.

Meanwhile, VC Sevale’s run of reasonable weather ended abruptly during their running of a 10-mile time trial on the popular Severn Stoke course.

Fifteen riders turned out in what looked like good conditions, however, a few minutes before the start the rain started and quickly got heavier as the racing got under way, turning torrential for a short time.

Despite the difficult conditions, Mike Amery came home in 22 minutes 54 seconds, to claim his second consecutive win.

Guest Jason Milner, of Worcester St John’s CC, was close behind on 23.15 and Sevale’s Will Davies finished third on 23.49 with Nick Stinton finishing fourth on 24.38.

Other times saw M Collins clock 25.14, M Peakman 26.12, A Sheppard 26.33, M Hedges 26.41, S Price 27.14, T Abbatiello 27.15, G Abbatiello 28.04, D Morgan 29.07, J Sewell 30.34, M Williams 30.49 and P Bushby 31.05.
