More teams for Malvern Town as they look to future
8:00am Friday 6th June 2014 in Sport
AMBITIOUS Malvern Town chiefs are striving to create a more professional approach at the Langland Stadium club.
Directors Chris Pinder and Ted Grizzell completed their takeover of the West Midlands League outfit last September.
They have been working hard since to not only re-establish the club at the heart of the community but also implement a footballing and development structure in line with many professional sides.
Malvern will have six teams playing under their banner next season compared to just two during the previous campaign.
Sporting director Grizzell said: “We are all very excited at the prospect of six different groups being part of the club next season and anything we can do to help aid development and improve performance is only going to be a good thing.
“It’s a great time to be associated with the club and another step closer to the long-term goal of professionalising Malvern Town FC.”
Along with the first team pushing for a top-six finish in the West Midlands League Premier Division, there will also be a new under 21s side operating in Division Two.
The under 18s set-up has been revived to play in the Midland Floodlit Youth League.
Another boost is the reintegration of Malvern Town Ladies with the club and the continuation of the boys’ player development centre.
The youth scheme will have a season-long programme for local under 15s and a six-week pilot for under 13s.
Along with the professional-grade pitch installed at the ground, there will be more off-field staff to support the coaches.
They include a sports psychologist, goalkeeping coach, physio and an analyst to make use of video technology which will be installed at the club’s home.
High-definition cameras will film home matches and, as well as games being shown in the bar, they will be studied for analysis sessions as part of training.
Potential players for next season can get involved in open trials at Dyson Perrins Academy’s 4G pitch.
The first team, under 21 and under 18 trials are on Saturday, June 28, from 2.30pm until 4.30pm, while the ladies meet on Sunday, July 6, from 12.30pm until 2.30pm.
There are some eye-catching names in the pre-season friendlies, which should be confirmed next week.
Anyone interested in trials can e-mail Grizzell at Ted@MalvernTown.co.uk or call 07598-412802.
