LAST year’s club captain Mike Sterry took the honours when the The Worcestershire's men competed for the Professional’s Cup and May Medal.

With the course playing long due to heavy overnight rain, Sterry’s nett 68 off a handicap of 15 secured the trophy.

He finished one stroke ahead of Division One’s Tim Wright (handicap nine) on 69.

Nick Smith’s steady form continued with second place in Division One with 70 off a handicap of five.

A group of players on 72 were led home by new member Louis di Perta (5) and included Andy Longley, who lifted the Left-Handers’ Cup.

Following Sterry home in Division Two were Andrew Whitely (17-71) and Robert Merley (16-72).

Division Three went to Martin Field (20-71) from John Monk (19-72) and Gary Torbitt (19-73).

Meanwhile, 38 ladies competed for the Russell Bogey Trophy.

In the testing bogey format, players used their handicap strokes to take on the course, recording a plus score if better than nett par for a hole and a minus if worse.

The clear winner was teenager Lucy Walton who, playing off a handicap of two, recorded an impressive score of plus two.

Elsie Kelsall played well to record minus one ahead of Sally Dare and Jackie Marks on minus two.

In club matches, the ladies succumbed to a 3-1 defeat to Tewkesbury Park with Jane Quick and Jan Kirkland being the only home winners.

However, The Worcestershire men’s ‘A’ team entertained Droitwich and managed to secure a creditable 4-2 win.

The result of the day was a success for the pairing of Jason Allies (handicap four) and Paul Wakley (9) by 6&5.

Andy Dunster (5) and Andy McCabe (5) also triumphed convincingly 5&3, while Mark Read (4) and Phil Birch (5) won 2&1.

Dave Marshall (scratch) & Steve Carter (11) came through a tough match successfully two up.

In the other matches, there were losses for Richard Sebok (8) and Pete Lupino (scratch) and Brian Kendall (12) and Kevin Carter (6), both on the last hole.
