A CLASSY Phil Harris display helped Barnards Green win by five runs at Halesowen to reach the Worcestershire Cup quarter-finals.

The Malvern visitors lost the toss and were put into bat with Harris, in a rare appearance for Green, proving to be the star of the innings.

He hit an outstanding 124 in just under 19 overs, which included 10 sixes, nine fours and at least six lost balls.

Captain Andy Ford added a rapid 21 to help the total to 170 in the allotted 20 overs, meaning Halesowen had to score at nearly nine-an-over.

Gabriel kept Halesowen well ahead of the run-rate as Green's opening bowlers tried hard to contain him.

Halesowen reached 37-0 off just three overs before Jon Dovey stifled the free-flowing young West Indian.

Harris also restricted Gabriel, eventually leading him to be clean bowled for a debut innings of 59, including six sixes and two fours.

Shoaib nicked the ball to wicketkeeper Ash Brewer to give Harris his second wicket but Halesowen opener Z Shadid continued to score.

Ford used his bowlers well but made the double breakthrough himself with Griffiths denied by fine fielding.

Dovey, on the mid-wicket boundary, jumped and flicked the ball back inside for Louis Loader to not only save the six but take the catch.

F Shadid was stumped by smart wicketkeeping from Brewer to leave Halesowen on 125-4 and needing 46 to win off the last four overs.

Patel and Z Shadid took them to within 15 runs before Harris' simple catch at mid-on dismissed the former and rewarded Dovey's bowling.

Ford bowled the last over with 14 needed to win and Z Shadid (53) was trapped lbw.

Maroof was stumped but Ford was denied a hat-trick when Wickstead hit a six.

But Moseley was caught behind off the last delivery to give Ford his fifth wicket and Brewer two catches and two stumpings as Halesowen finished short on 165-8.

Green host Premier League side Himley in the last eight.
