LEDBURY Town suffered a second unwelcome defeat against lowly St Martins in West Midlands Football League Division One, going down 2-0 after the long journey up to Shropshire.

Keen to avenge the humiliating 2-1 defeat in November at New Street, lightning struck twice for Paul Mann’s team.

Were it not for fine Ledbury defending and another terrific display of goalkeeping from 17-year-old Elliott Watts, the scoreline could have been troubling double figures.

St Martins hit the bar on four occasions and it took the quick reactions of Craig Kitchener and Pete Boyle to make several goalline clearances.

Ian Merrick and Andy Matthews also defended well, while Dan Herbert missed a header which could have changed the game during the first period.

Ledbury remain 11th in the league and they aim to secure a first league win in six matches at home to seventh-placed Gornal Athletic Reserves on Saturday, February 8.

Karl Lancett’s reserve squad hope to finally restart their campaign in Herefordshire League Division One tomorrow at home to Wellington Colts (2.30pm).
