MALVERN Town are hoping they will have an advantage over their West Midlands League Premier Division rivals when they return to action following a raft of postponements.

The Langland Stadium outfit have not played since beating league leaders Lye Town 2-0 back on December 28.

In the past week they have seen games at Wellington Amateurs in Shropshire and a home Worcestershire Senior Urn match against Bromsgrove Sporting called off due to waterlogged pitches.

However, when it comes to league games, Malvern Town have played more matches than any other team in the league.

Les Jones’ men already have 31 matches under their belts, which is as many as seven more than some of their rivals, following a busy start to the season.

Town are now hoping that while other teams are playing catch-up, they will be able to complete their fixture list with significantly less hassle.

With a top-10 finish firmly in their sights, it could be just what they need over the next few months.

The Malvern manager said: “It is a benefit that we haven’t got to catch up with games, some sides will have a fixture back log which we shouldn’t have.

“We have got Saturday league games until the end of the season and a couple of midweek cup games but only a couple of midweek matches in the league.

“We should have a reasonably easy run-in but we had a busy start when the squad was being tested and players were suspended.”

Jones added: “Hopefully we will feel the benefit of it but we need to keep playing regularly now for the fitness levels.

“We will be a bit rusty but we are looking forward to tomorrow, we are desperate to play.”

Given their lack of matches, defensive duo Mark Saysell and Aaron Richards are still waiting to complete one game bans.

Malvern will also be looking to rearrange their senior urn clash against Bromsgrove Sporting, called off for the second week running.
