Malvern Gazette: Frustrated Jones looks to get Town back in action Frustrated Jones looks to get Town back in action

MALVERN Town manager Les Jones says his team are champing at the bit to play a match in 2014 as they seek to build on their best result of the season.

The Langland Stadium side stunned West Midlands League Premier Division leaders Lye Town 2-0 on December 28 to finish 2013 on a high.

But the weather has since intervened and they have seen two matches in a row called off due to waterlogged pitches.

They were due to host Smethwick Rangers last Saturday and entertain Ledbury Town in the Worcester Infirmary Cup second round on Wednesday.

They are due to welcome Bromsgrove Sporting in the Worcestershire Senior Urn quarter-finals next Wednesday (7.30pm).

Jones said: “It’s really frustrating because we got a great result against Lye and had a lot of players back. We wanted to play the next day.

“It gives us tremendous confidence and we are looking forward to 2014.

“We are in really good spirits and have had a great win so we really want to play tomorrow but it will be a tough game.”

Malvern are 13th in the table but have their sights set on a top-10 finish and Jones believes their efforts to date will hold them in good stead.

He added: “We have played Lye and Shawbury twice already, and Black Country Rangers once, so we have faced a lot of the top sides.

“We have got 13 league games to go against midtable teams that are around us so we are looking forward to the rest of the season.”

Defenders Aaron Richards and Mark Saysell miss tomorrow’s match as they complete respective three and two-game bans.

Welland striker James Lush, who scored both goals against Lye, has joined Town permanently.

Mid-table Bromyard Town host Wolverhampton Casuals on Tuesday (7.45pm).

Bromyard saw their game fall foul of the wet weather last weekend.
