FATHER-and-son team David and Josh Marshall won through to the knockout stages after The Worcestershire’s winter four ball league third round.

Playing off handicaps of one and 13 respectively, David and Josh Marshall triumphed with 44 points in Malvern Wells.

Finishing second on countback and also through to the knockouts with 43 are Tim Wright (9) and John Duncan (16) from Mark Read (5) and Marcus Holman (10).

In the ladies’ winter league fourth round, Penny Stevenson and Veronica Shaw won with 32 points ahead of June Jones and Janet Long (31) and Sharon Williams and Kay Bromley (29).

The Worcestershire prospect Lucy Walton, 14, is one of 10 talented West Midlands young golfers chosen for England Coaching.

The Midland South under 15s girls’ champion is among four girls in the under 16s regional squad who will train over the winter with a mix of group coaching, matches and one-to-one sessions.

It is the first rung on the ladder of England Golf’s national structure and led by Matt Whall alongside strength and conditioning coach Ben Langdown.

The body’s performance director Nigel Edwards said: “We aim to give our talented young players the best golf development experience available.”
