LEDBURY amateur boxers and Hereford Lions Club held a successful charity fight night at the city’s Shirehall.

Competitors travelled from all over England with four representing hosts Ledbury.

Wayne Lock won by a unanimous decision and starred for his club by also picking up the best boxer of the night award after showing plenty of skill and determination.

Coach Fred Florence said: “Wayne will be entering the open class championship in February.”

Luke Cullwick stepped up against the tough Mohammed Husain from one of the top English clubs and won by a majority decision.

In a rematch, Kevin Florence faced Sam Mann from Factory ABC and shocked him with his skill and power.

Florence upped the pressure in the second round with his opponent throwing a foul below the belt twice and again in the third before being disqualified. Dinars Ziraks had his first bout against Daniel Edge, of Shrewsbury and Severnside, who won by a majority decision in his seventh fight as the debutant ran out of energy.

Florence added: “We would like to thank everybody who supported us on the evening, especially Malcolm Sutherland.”

There are 45 boxers at Ledbury and the coaches will reopen their base at Hereford Lads Club.

Donations of equipment or carpentry skills would be welcome and anyone interested can call Florence on 01531-631879.
