WELLAND progressed to the quarter-finals of the Worcestershire Minor County Cup with a 6-0 win at Malvern Vale.

The home side made it difficult for Welland early on disrupting the play and putting the visitors under pressure.

Tom Soley and Tim Lewis both headed over with the goal at their mercy, while James Lush and Omar Elmougy forced smart saves from Vale’s keeper.

The hosts went close shortly afterwards with an effort fired across the goalmouth and wide, before Welland eventually broke the deadlock on 40 minutes when Lush beat two defenders and slid the ball home for a onegoal half-time lead.

Welland came out for the second-half with a lot more intent and soon doubled their lead through Soley from close range.

Lewis made it 3-0 following some good work from Lush, before Elmougy lashed in a fourth following a strong and powerful run.

Vale kept battling but were mainly restricted to longrange efforts, the best of these coming from Adam Derrington and Iain Phelps.

Welland’s lead was extended again with 10 minutes remaining when Mark Taylor scored from the edge of the area with a smart strike.

Full-Back Ben Deakin came close in the dying minutes, before Taylor released Lewis, who took the ball on and smashed home his second to seal victory.
