Upton's cup hopes are ended by Tenbury
3:40pm Monday 9th December 2013 in Sport
UPTON Town crashed out of the Worcestershire FA Minor Cup at the second round stage as Tenbury United pulled off a smash-and-grab 1-0 victory.
Town started well and went close in the opening minutes when full-back Roebury flashed a shot just wide from the left.
As the hosts started to increase the pressure, Tenbury broke on the half-hour and won a free-kick, which was converted for what proved to be the match-winner.
Upton replied with Jake Hall having a volley tipped over and Lawrence Smith worked two chances for himself.
The Tenbury keeper fumbled from a corner and the ball looked to have crossed the line but nothing was given.
The second-half started as the first ended, Radnor got forward and delivered a cross which Smith headed inches over.
Luke Kitchen had a good chance with a half-volley from 15 yards, but he narrowly missed the target. Tenbury looked dangerous on the counter-attack with their pace, but Darby in Town’s goal dealt well with longrange sighters.
Town’s Richardson looked to have tapped-in from a yard out, however, the Tenbury keeper quickly pounced on the ball and the referee did not award the goal as he didn’t have a clear view of the incident.
The hosts didn't let this get to them and showed good character in pushing until the end with Crumo, Hall, Richardson and Kitchen all having chances.
