AN Alfrick rider triumphed at the Horse of the Year show a decade after her first success on the national stage.
Joanne Woodward won the Arabian Magazine Purebred Arab Mare Of The Year category at the prestigious competition held at Birmingham’s NEC with nine-year-old mare Karaselle.
The pair were one of 12 entrants in the event, in which Karaselle, owned by Susan Murphy, was judged on riding skill and appearance.
Woodward was also named reserve champion in the Arab Horse Society Ridden Purebred Arab Of The Year Championship, which takes into account the mare, stallion and gelding categories.
The 43-year-old’s achievement comes 10 years after she won the same category at the Sky Sports-televised showpiece.
Woodward said: “When you get to the Horse of the Year show the atmosphere is so different from everywhere else.
“It’s really down to luck because with so many people, she could spook at something and things not work out.”
She added: “They are horses and anything can happen on the day but she behaved herself and won.”
