EVER-consistent golfer Mary Horrobin saw off all opposition when the season’s medal winners at The Worcestershire Golf Club met to contest the coveted Doug Cotton Rose Bowl.
Playing a medal round and carding a nett 71, Horrobin came in a full three strokes ahead of the field.
Cathy Harris led the pursuing pack with 74 from Lisa Digings on 75.
In the 18-hole Stableford, Davina Taylor recorded an excellent 38 points to win both the Silver Division and the overall competition.
Second in the Silver Division was Jill Piner on 34, from Sally Dare on 33.
The Bronze Division went to Janet Manning-Cox with 35, ahead of Pam Emery- Reynolds and Jill Exell, while veteran golfer and former ladies’ captain, Doreen Hunt, took the Copper Division from Jill Mico and Maureen Riley.
Esme Davy won the ninehole Stableford ahead of Marie Willis.
Meanwhile, The Worcestershire’s men were competing in the Spreckley Foursomes competition.
New member Andrew Fleming (handicap 18) and his partner Mike Bolton (21) signalled their potential by coming in with 40 points, despite a maximum stroke allowance of 18, relegating low handicappers Steven Lane (+1) and Neville Clarke (6) to second place on a score of 38.
Andy McCable (5) and Paul Wakely (10) secured third place with 36 on countback from Mick Mitchell (20) and Paul Adams (20).
Captain Mike Sterry’s last club match of the season resulted in a creditable 3½- 2½ win in pouring rain at Minchinhampton, where the slick greens held no fear for The Worcestershire’s impressive team.
Sterry and playing partner Roger Brierly halved the first match with Andy Davis and John Monk winning the second 3&2.
There were 4&3 wins for Mike Bothma and Chris Hardy and Alan Davies and Ken Dawe, while Garry Eames and Mike Day lost by the same margin and Bill Fahey and Len Coleman lost 2&1.
