A GOOD field of 39 The Worcestershire ladies took to the Malvern Wells course to contest the Jack Campbell Trophy.

Division One’s Helen Thomas and Division Two’s Ann Garner both returned nett scores of 37 stableford points with Garner wresting the silverware on countback.

Jackie Marks was second in Division One with 36 from Davina Taylor on 33, while, in Division Two, Jane Poynder followed home Garner with 34 from Laura Speers, Elsie Kelsall, Liz Pool and Joan Howarth, all on 31.

Jane Quick took Division Three with 32 from Isabel Carmichael (31) and Zena Lloyd (30).

In the nine-hole stableford, Marie Willis won, with Maggie Campbell runner-up.

Meanwhile, The Worcestershire’s men were vying for the Tankard Foursomes.

Excellent scoring resulted in a win for Mike Bothma (handicap 13) and Mike Day (17) with 39 points from Steven Lane (+1) and Neville Clarke (6) on 38 and Terry Smith (7) and Gary Lynes (11) on 37.

In match-play, the foursomes summer knock-out reached its conclusion.

A hard-fought contest saw Richard Sebok and Mike Hanna, playing off seven and 14 respectively, beat Andy McCabe and Paul Wakely (handicaps 5 and 10) by 3&2 to take the Ledbury Cup.

The losing semi-finalists were Brian Kendall with Gerald Bird and Colin Goodrum with Edward Gaynor-Smith.

In the last of the season’s popular inter-club mixed matches, 12 pairs from The Worcestershire played host Kings Norton.

Captains Brenda and Trevor Cox won their match as did Di and Jim Wilde, Stephanie and Chris Nixon, Isabel and Charles Carmichael and Doreen Hunt and Mike Dobel.

Janet and Laurie Long secured a half but the remaining home pairs were unsuccessful with Kings Norton taking the match 6½-5½.
