Wintle finishes on a high

ANDY Wintle finished his first motorcycle racing season on a high after securing fourth place in the East Midland Racing Association Pre-Injection Championship at Mallory Park.
The 39-year-old from Malvern only took up racing this year after completing just two track days on his Yamaha R6.
With a tight budget, the six-round, three-track series for pre-2002 motorcycles was a good choice and his consistency proved key.
“Lining up on the grid for my first race in March was scary. My goal then was just to stay on the bike and not crash!” he said. “With no spare cash for testing or track days, qualifying was often the first time I had even seen the track, so learning somewhere like Cadwell Park in the 10-minute session was interesting.”
Wintle steadily improved to tie overall on points with third place, missing out on a trophy on the count-back system.
