DOUBLE Olympic gold medallist Charlotte Dujardin crowned the most successful European Showjumping and Dressage Championship in British equestrian history.
Newent’s dressage ace Dujardin added freestyle gold to her grand prix special triumph on 10-year-old gelding Valegro, claiming a second European individual title in 48 hours in Herning, Denmark.
It took Britain’s medal haul to six with half of them being gold following the showjumping team’s triumph.
The dressage team quartet of Dujardin, her Newent colleague Carl Hester, Michael Eilberg and Gareth Hughes were third for bronze.
Dujardin, 28, finished almost four per cent in front of silver medallist Helen Langehanenberg individually.
She said: “I had great fun. I absolutely loved it. It was amazing. The performance felt much better than London.
“He (Valegro) just felt fantastic out there but I had no idea the crowd would start clapping before the end. They don’t normally.”
“It was such a polished performance,” said Hester who finished sixth on 81.696 per cent aboard Uthopia.
