Bendall's century enough for Malvern
9:00pm Wednesday 28th August 2013 in Sport
MALVERN return to winning ways in Worcestershire League Division Three with an emphatic 10-wicket home victory over Birlingham.
The visitors, asked to bat first, could only muster a disappointing 179-9 from 50 overs as many of the batsmen could not build on decent starts.
Jeremy Lee was Malvern’s most successful bowler with 4-26, while Rob Perrins produced a fine spell of swing to take 3-46 and Tom Hale claimed the other wicket.
Fifth-placed Malvern’s openers Ollie Bendall and Andrew Cullen wasted little time in going on the attack with superb strokes.
Bendall, in particular, was in scintillating form, hitting an unbeaten 102 which included 10 fours and four sixes.
Cullen continued his fine season with 59 not out as Malvern reached their target of 180 in the 28th over without a wicket lost.
- Malvern Artefacts lost the Worcester Evening League’s Tansell Cup final to Worcester Dominies by 90 runs at Barnards Green.
The city side elected to bat first in the 10 eight-ball overs game and made good progress against a wayward bowling attack.
Matt Brace clubbed a quick-fire 30 and man-of-thematch Darren Freeman 36 in their 141 before Artefacts slumped to 51 all out. Freeman took 3-26.
