Milton and Ford guide Green to Dorridge win
12:30pm Tuesday 20th August 2013 in Sport
BARNARDS Green moved up to fourth in Birmingham and District Premier League Division One after holding their catches in a 59-run win at Dorridge.
The Malvern side collected 24 points after scoring 213 and then bowling their second- placed Solihull hosts out for 154.
Dorridge captain Kasir Shah won the toss and chose to field with overcast skies and a stiff breeze.
Openers Mark Hooper and Adam Dovey had their work cut out and the latter was dropped early on off the impressive Matt McGillivray.
Hooper (2) fell first and Green slumped to 32-3 as McGillivray added the wickets of Alex Hepburn (1) and Dovey (22).
Mark Hardinges (8) gave McGillivray his third wicket, leaving Green on 46-4 with Alex Milton and captain Andy Ford at the crease.
Ford was dropped twice in the slips but Green accelerated to 100 in the 29th over when he hit a straight drive for four.
Milton rotated the strike as Ford reached his half-century with another boundary.
Dorridge turned to spinners Iftikhar Ahmad and Qasim Shah but the batting duo brought up the 150 mark.
However, the partnership of 106 was broken when Ford (70) was caught at deep midwicket off Ahmad (3-28) after 66 balls and 11 fours.
After several more wickets, Ash Brewer and Milton (55) took the score to 188 when the latter departed in bizarre fashion, kicking his wicket when playing a cut shot.
Green progressed past 200 in the 51st over but McGillivray (4-37) returned to bowl Liam Smith (6).
Blair Kingsland (5) was last man out, leaving Brewer unbeaten on 22, with one over left so Dorridge had 56 to reach 214.
Jonathan Webb (15) blasted a six off Smith but the inform youngster got his revenge a few overs later by bowling him.
The on-song David Ball was dismissed quickly by Graeme Cessford, looking sharp on his return from Worcestershire duty, through Hooper’s superb onehanded catch.
Smith (2-35) struck again as McGillivray was snaffled by a diving Hardinges at second slip.
Jon Dovey’s introduction brought an important breakthrough as he trapped opener Valeed Butt (50) lbw to leave Dorridge wobbling on 86-4.
Dovey (5-23) grabbed more wickets as Oliver Haley (18) fell lbw, Kasir Shah (9) was held by Ford at mid-wicket and the big-hitting Ali Ebad (18) picked out Smith on the boundary.
His five-for was complete as Ahmad was well caught by wicketkeeper Brewer at full stretch.
With Dorridge on 131-8 with 17 overs remaining, the fast short-pitched bowling of Cessford proved too much for the tail. Qasim Shah topedged to Hardinges and Lee Davis (11) was smartly caught by Jon Dovey as Dorridge were dismissed in 46.4 overs with Cessford claiming 3-36.
