WITH just one more week of the first half of the Paperstation Malvern League to go, Manor Park Travellers have established themselves firmly at the top of Division two.

They achieved a convincing win over Poolbrook Panthers when the only game that Panthers won was in the first game of the doubles.

Ken Hipwell, Martin Snee and Toby Wren were the winning trio.

An enjoyable evening of action, full of some close games, ended all square for Crackpots ‘D’ and Devils.

After six sets which were all won in three games, the score was 3-3.

The doubles was won by the ‘D’ team in four games, while Bob Rhodes was taken to five games by Liz Hallam, this was followed by Pete Harding beating Tim Dolding to give the ‘D’ team a 5-4 lead.

The whole result hinged on the last set of the evening.

James Palmer, playing Paul Lythgoe, only narrowly lost the first game 10-12, but won the next two by nine and eight, then Lythgoe won the fourth to six.

By taking the fifth game, Lythgoe earned a hardfought draw for his team.

Another drawn match this week was between Crackpots ‘B’ and Malvern Tornados.

Only two sets were won in three games and three needed five, with 12 games going beyond 9-9.

It was one of those evenings when everyone went home with at least one win to their credit.

For the ‘B’ team Alan Forsdike and Stan Ginn both won two, while Ted Cates won one set.

For Tornados, Andy Banks won two singles and the doubles with Dominic Weston, while Weston and Noel O’Neill won one singles set each.
