CLUBS and voluntary groups across Malvern have been presented with cheques by the organisers of the annual West Fest music festival.
At a presentation evening in the Brewers Arms, West Malvern, eight grants totalling £7,150, were given out, the proceeds of the event held in August last year.
The two biggest grants went to West Malvern Cricket Club and to St James's CE Primary School, which got £2,000 each.
The cricket club will use the money to buy mowing equipment, and the school will buy drama, arts and sports equipment.
Leapfrogs Playgroup, also in West Malvern, was granted £800 for the development of a new outdoor play area.
The Sean Eireann McMahon Academy got £600 to send children to the Irish dance world championships in Philadelphia.
Malvern Mencap in Osborne Court, Malvern Link, was awarded £500 to buy toys and entertainments for visiting children. And another £500 was given to Malvern Access Group to help fund the production of the new Malvern Access Guide for people with limited mobility.
The Theatre of Small Convenience in Edith Walk, was given £400 towards the development of new shows. And the Second Malvern Link Brownies got £350 to help fund the summer camp.
This year's West Fest is being held on Saturday, July 11, a departure from previous years, when it has been held on Bank Holiday Monday.
