Well since the last time I wrote we have been quite busy.

We have had an operation running to address the metal/lead thefts.

We have had some good arrests in relation to these types of offences and I would urge you to keep phoning in when you see anything suspicious – you are fantastic at doing this and there is nothing more pleasing than officers acting on your phone calls and getting a good result out of it. Even if we don’t – we don’t mind going!

One thing that I really hate is the targeting of vulnerable people.

I know first hand what this can do to victims as my grandmother was a victim of a distraction burglary where she was kept at the door by one person and the other went into her house and stole her purse.

She was never the same again and it was the beginning of her decline. For advice on this type of crime click here.

My City Centre Team work hard to ensure that all visitors to Worcester are kept safe.

We do have a minority of not so very nice people who think that they can come here and steal from elderly shoppers and take their purses (‘purse dippers’ as we call them).

These offences always make me think of my grandmother and what she went through.

My officers are so professional and proud of what they do, especially in relation to these ‘purse dippers’.

Recent good arrests of these people have resulted in one getting a 24 week prison sentence suspended for two years, 150 hours unpaid work and a two-year supervision order.

Another was remanded for seven days and then sentenced to 22 weeks in prison.

Needless to say, I am very proud of all my officers and staff!

I am looking forward to the next few weeks. We are going to my daughter’s graduation, she has finally qualified as a veterinary surgeon after eight long (expensive) years at university so I may have to hold the tears back!!

My son has decided that he is buying a house and will be moving in shortly – so bank of mum and dad has re-opened!

Thought I would leave you with a bit of a funny story. Two of my CSOs went to do a reassurance visit. The day that they went just happened to be the daughter’s 18th Birthday.

The younger daughter answered the door and shouted to her mum that the police were there.

The older daughter upstairs shouted ‘Are they my strippers?’ only to walk to the top of the stairs to see who it actually was standing on the door step! One very red faced embarrassed lady and two highly amused CSOs.
