It's busy, busy, busy!

"Well, another busy weekend here at South Worcestershire Police with Halloween, which thankfully didn’t give us any nightmares this year with only minor disorder reported.
We now move onto bonfire night this weekend which will hopefully pass without too much of a bang! Remember, have fun, but stay safe!
Last week we also dedicated a day to tackling metal theft.
Driven by the economy, metal theft has become a real problem and we are determined to crack down on those who choose to engage in this sort of criminality, risk their own safety, and the safety of others, and cause misery by stealing copper wire, statues, drain covers and even door knockers.
The day was very successful with a number of rogues stopped and checked over.
On a lighter note, as I write this blog my legs are aching and my pride is a little damaged having taking part in a community football match against some young men from Tolladine, Worcester. Unfortunately, the police side got played off the park and walloped something like 10-1 (I lost count in the end!).
Still the game was played in a terrific spirit and reinforced the great relationship the Local Policing Team has with the lads in the area. If you would forgive a spot of indulgence I also had my moment of fame this week by doing a piece for the BBC about how the police deal with offenders.
For a few minutes my office was turned into a TV studio, very much a case of ‘lights, camera, action!’.
So, if you really have nothing better to do this Sunday morning look out for me on the Midlands Politics Show. I promise not to let the fame go to my head!

thank you for giving me this opportunity to contact you.
In the Worcester News on 22 July 2011,entitled "We're still working to stop crime",the local policing team at Warndon gave details of numerous incidents and crimes and arrests and convictions,as well as details of other actions undertaken by local officers.I was most impressed to read of such details and I hope this reassured other readers of the article.Please could this become a regular feature of different local policing teams under your command so the law-abiding public can be made aware of all the actions your officers undertake and show how offenders face justice?Thanks.

I'm glad someone is out there! Thank you for been the first person to respond to my blog!
South Worcestershire remains a low crime area and we are keen to promote this. Sould anyone want details of crimes occuring in their local area I would encourage them to either go on to the national www.police / Crime Mapper website which has data down to "beat level" or onto the www.westmerciapolice website / Local Policing where you will find more information about what is happening in Worcester, Wychavon and Malvern.
You could of course also talk to one of the 32 local Policing teams we have in place, either informally or at one of the many PACT meetings or surgeries we hold.

As you talked about PACT meetings may i give you a few things to think about.... some areas have open meetings (that are not very well attended) some areas have PACT panels, some have postcard schemes and some have nothing!
I'm sure many people are just too busy to attend PACT meetings but i did hear about a different area doing PACT a little differently. Meetings with LPT's and higher up people with in the force, council, CSP, RSL's, councillor's etc were 'live streamed' so people could attend the meeting from their own home, the could contribute on line to get questions asked and also just sit and listen. Apparently over 70 people logged onto the meeting, better than the 6 or 7 usual faces you see at ours! How about it?

West Mercia Police are trying lots of different ways to engage with the public, including using new technology.
As well as West Mercia Police Facebook Twitter sites and blogs you are quite right in that the Chief Constable recently hosted a live webchat which went very well.
We intend to do something similar again in the near future. we will keep you posted!

thank you for your response above.According to the UK Crimemapper street crime level website for several local policing areas within South Worcestershire,crime levels are rated as average not low so we need to be careful about repeated descriptions of West Mercia Police areas as low crime areas when the official police site says otherwise.In any case,with West Mercia Police being a rural force area it should never have crime levels as high as other forces who cover urban areas(e.g.West Mids Police).Regarding the Worcester News article;the first 2 sources you mention are only available on-line so would exclude the 20% or so of the population who do not have access to the internet.In any case,even internet users still read newpapers(even if it is only on-line)and the useful feature of that article was the naming of some criminals and the way it summarised the productive work of local officers over a period of time.If it has been done once in this case to show the good work of a local policing team I see no reason why it cannot become a regular feature in local newspapers?

Thanks for the reply. The South Worcestershire policing area is actually very diverse with a vibrant city centre in Worcester, thriving towns including Evesham, Droitwich and Malvern, as well more rural areas. I appreciate all of these things are comparable but I am pleased to say that overall crime and anti social behaviour continues to fall.
I would agree that it is important that Local Policing teams reassure communties by providing information around their good work. All of the 32 Local Policing teams across South Worcestershire are encouraged to do this in a way that is appropriate to the profile of the area they cover.

resting to read the string relating to the the web chat and to see you have taken the idea on board, going live with your web chat next Wednesday. I'll be interested to know what the 'attendance' and feedback is compared to PACT.
