ST James’s Church was nearly full for the Carols by Candlelight service which was a veritable feast of seasonal music.

The choir was boosted by members of the West Malvern Voices and others from our Elim/Regents College neighbours, who have so enriched village life.

It was led by Malvern St James’s Head of Music Lynn Lindner, formerly of its predecessor St James’s Girls School.

As well as the tried and tested traditional favourites, there were several modern carols, including a new one by our organist John Raine, who with his wife Susan on keyboard provided inspiring instrumental support. A highlight was the pure soprano voice of Catrin Osborn as she led the processional carol Once in royal David’s city.

Finally, on a personal note, as the year in which I lost my dear life’s partner Anna draws to a close, may I thank so many in the village for sympathy and support at a difficult time - and also for many kind remarks welcoming me back to this slot. West Malvern is a truly warm-hearted community – as well as having the best sunsets! A happy new year to all.
