CONGRATULATIONS to the children of Key Stage 1 at Powick primary School for their excellent Christmas play The Grumpy Shepherd which was performed twice in Powick Parish Hall last week.

There were lots of shepherds, lots of sheep and a host of angels and of course the stable. The singing was lively and accompanied by Peter Walden on keyboard. The children were drawn from Reception and Years 1 and 2 and filled the stage.

The end-of-term Christmas service will be held on Wednesday, December 20 in Powick Church at 2pm.

Powick Community Choir sang at a brunch in Callow Great Hall, Stanbrook Abbey on Sunday, December 1.

Christmas pieces were sung and solos were by Miriam Griffiths and Jenny Newton and the concert ended with the Hallelujah Chorus from The Messiah, conducted by Tom Wells, with Charles Pavey on piano and organ. Members of the choir will again be singing this Sunday lunch-time to those who have dined at the Abbey.

On Wednesday, December 18, a four-mile walk from Powick Old Bridge to Bransford Bridge via Upper Wick will be led by David Allen (01905 831988), leaving at 10am.

The Service of Nine Lessons and Carols will be held in St Peter’s Church, Powick, on Sunday, December 22 at 6.30pm.

The Children’s Society Boxes held by folk in the village over the last year, have raised £686, Marian Lewis wishes to thank everyone.
