Powick

ON Friday, March 8, Friends of Link Nurseries are holding a Coffee Morning from 10am to noon with homemade scones and cake, and there will be a demonstration of seed sowing, plus raffle.

An enthusiastic and talented cast of 20 local people filled Powick Parish Hall on five nights last week with their brilliant production of the pantomime Treasure Island.

Superb costumes, scenery, lighting and sound set the scene for the Admiral Benbow Inn, a pirates’ cave, the quayside and the ship, a haunted cavern and Treasure Island beach.

It was good to have young people playing Jim Hawkins (Mollie Withey) and the Squire’s daughter Felicity (Billie Ralston) and others helping with make-up and sound.

Fearsome Long John Silver was played by Alan Craven and a wonderfully dressed pantomime dame Ma Hawkins by Rob Leadbeater.

There were plenty of jokes, audience participation and slap-stick executed with perfect timing by a pair of sailors, Dave Smedley and Mike Washbourne.

Some of the fierce pirates doubled up as Bond Girls, Monday to Friday, on the beach with Robinson Crusoe (Keith Lewis).

Thanks also to the front of house and refreshments teams.

At each performance a raffle was held for a different charity – Cancer Research, RNLI, Malvern Food Bank, Age UK and Acorns Hospice – raising between £70 and £90 each night.
