UPTON in Bloom is stepping up its preparations ahead of what looks set to be an extremely busy summer.

The group has just been informed that judges from the Heart of England in Bloom competition will be visiting for their tour of the town on Wednesday, July 6.

They will arrive at 10am and finish their inspection at the Old Churchyard at about 11.45am.

And that visit will not signal the end of the hard work, as later in the summer, Upton will be competing in the national RHS Britain in Bloom competition.

Ahead of the judging, members of Upton in Bloom will be planting summer displays around the town at 10am on Saturday, June 4.

Anyone who would like to help out should call chairman Jackie Surtees on 01684 592336.

As well as participating in the regional and national contests, Upton in Bloom is once again organising its own local competitions.

Entries are being accepted in eight categories - front garden; back garden; courtyard; house frontage; pubs/restaurants; shop window; shop frontage; and business premises.

Entry forms are available now from The Launderette, in New Street. Judging for the eight categories will take place on Saturday, July 2.
