UPTON’S floral displays were described as “magnificent” by Heart of England in Bloom judges following their visit earlier this summer.
The judges’ comments have been released following the Heart of England in Bloom awards ceremony, which took place in Pershore Abbey last week.
There was double delight for Upton, which received a coveted gold award as well as being named winner in the large village category.
The judges’ report says that Upton has developed and grown an “obvious sense of civic pride, which prevails throughout the community”.
It states: “This is demonstrated by their continuous and relentless commitment to improve, respect and protect their local environment for the benefit of all.”
Among a lengthy list of ‘areas of achievement’ the judges praise Upton’s litter-free streets, residents’ gardens and floral displays and the involvement of students from Hanley Castle High School and Upton Primary School.
