ANY suspicious activity around parked vehicles is recommended to be reported to the police following an increase in catalytic converter thefts around the Malvern Hills policing area.

Police say the increase in thefts is due to the rise in the value of the precious metals they contain. Larger vehicles such as vans and 4x4s are targeted most often because they have a higher ground clearance and make the converters more accessible.

Police say the best way to protect your vehicle is to keep it in a garage if possible; install motion activated lighting if you park on a driveway; mark the converter with forensic security marking; locks are also available that can be fitted to a converter.

Anyone seeing anything suspicious or witnessing a crime in action is asked to ring 999 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. The safer neighbourhood team can be reached by ringing 101.
