ROCK band Ya Ya Logic might have global ambitions with the release of their latest album Own the World.

But in fact the band itself couldn’t be more grounded in West Malvern, with three of the four members living in houses right next to each other on the same road.

Drummer Martin Worster and singer/guitarist Paul Townson live next door to each other while lead guitarist Jonathan Campbell’s house is across the road.

Bass player Ian Harding brings a little foreign exotica to the band as he lives 100 yards away up the hill on West Malvern Road.

“We can literally sit in our own gardens and rehearse together,” says Jonathan. “Although we can’t hear Ian's bass so well unless there is a very favourable wind."

The band, which got together two years ago, have a reputation for angsty and heartfelt lyrics and insistent chord sequences.

Up until now, they have been quite content playing gigs and festivals largely around Malvern, but that might be about to change.

“We are very happy playing music in West Malvern, but we need more people to hear what we are doing now so I guess that means travelling out of the village,” says Martin.

The new album's title of Own the World and its cover showing a litle tree planted on an asteroid hints at adventure far beyond West Malvern. The band say that the idea for the CD cover comes from one of the songs on the album.

"Ironically,” says Martin, “although it’s a song about being empowered to travel around the world and to the stars, the song itself was actually composed while walking on the Malvern Hills.”

Own the World is released this week by Ya Ya Logic on Spotify, iTunes and other streaming services. It will shortly be available on CD direct from yayalogic.co.uk.
