WEST Bromwich Albion stars Kieran Gibbs and Sam Field paid a visit to an Oldbury school to mark the launch of a new campaign to get children active.

The players were also joined by Baggie Bird and CBBC presenter Karim Zeroual to kick off the Premier League and BBC’s jointly-led Super Movers campaign at Tividale Community Primary School.

It is hoped the campaign will help primary school teachers to inspire children to become more active throughout their school day and enhance their learning through easy-to-follow educational videos, each featuring a routine to get pupils moving so they are ready to learn.

England defender Kieran said: “It was a great experience to visit Tividale Primary and join in with the kids’ exercise session.

“As a footballer, I know how important regular physical exercise is in order to stay alert and in the zone and the Super Movers programme will help children to concentrate on their education.”

The guests joined the school for a special assembly before visiting different classes to encourage pupils to get involved in the scheme. At lunch time, pupils came together for a flash mob workout which saw more than 50 students following a routine in unison.

After lunch, pupils joined several schools across the country in taking part in an active maths lesson, which was streamed live from Liverpool FC’s Anfield Stadium.

Karim added: “Super Movers is a really inspiring initiative and I feel honoured to be able to support the programme and encourage children to be more active. It’s really important for kids to engage in regular physical activity in order to stay engaged and motivated throughout the school day.

“It’s such a simple way to increase the children’s energy levels and allow them to actually enjoy learning.

“It was great to be able to join in with the exercise routines with the children at Tividale Primary, who were really eager to get moving. I really enjoyed learning new exercise routines which will definitely come in handy when I need an energy boost.”

Teachers can access Super Movers’ content online at www.bbc.co.uk/supermovers, which includes many ‘Brain Booster’ videos and simple solutions to help children learn while they move – all linked to the school curriculum.
