A flood warning has been issued for the river Wye from Hay to Hereford.

It follows the heavy rain over the weekend.

Dave Throup, Environment Agency manager for Herefordshire and Worcestershire, said river levels were rising quickly due to heavy rain in Wales and saturated ground.

"Roads in the Letton and Willersley area may be affected. Peaking through tomorrow," he said.

The Environment Agency said that at 5.30pm today the river level at Hay-on-Wye was 1.82 metres and rising.

A peak level of between 2.8 and 3.3 metres is expected overnight.

The level at Bredwardine was 2.26 metres and rising. A peak level of between 4.9 and 5.3 metres is expected tomorrow.

The level at Belmont was 2.11 metres and rising. A peak level of between 4.6 and 5.1 metres is expected tomorrow.

Mr Throup said there had been 30-50mm of rain in large parts of mid Wales, with snow melt adding to it.

The water was now finding its way into our larger rivers, particularly the Wye and Teme.
