A SELF-PUBLISHED author is showcasing his new book with an event at the Chestnut Inn on Friday evening.

David Simson’s latest book, Jewel Intentions, was printed through Spiffing Covers and is the second part of a crime trilogy following protagonist Jennifer Turner.

The event, at the pub in Landsdowne Road, Worcester, includes a reading of the book, live music and food.

After his dad died in 2012, Mr Simson, an engineer-by-day from Evesham, was given a month off work and found some old A4 sheets of scribble he’d made 30 years before.

Transferring them to his laptop, these pros, written when he was 18, formed the basis for the first in the trilogy, Jewel Agenda, which he completed 18 months later.

The book had originally been set in Europe but, having spent five years living in Australia in the 90s following the death of his mum, Mr Simson switched the setting.

“Australia was never intended to be part of the original storyline but following my experiences it became the focal point of the whole plot," he said. "Nearly everywhere quoted are places I’ve visited.”

Mr Simson, who has also lived in Worcester, said he has had a love for writing since school.

“The only homework I ever enjoyed was being given the first line of an essay and then having to write a story off the back of it,” he said.

“I was always reading when not doing homework and I came to the conclusion that I should have a go at writing a novel.”

After finishing his first book, Mr Simson had already decided it would be part of a trilogy, with the second instalment written in 12 months, and the final part, Jewel Conclusions, set to be released in 2019.

Friday’s event starts at 7.30pm and attendants will be able to buy the book.
