TWO flagship Wyre Forest Parks are in the running to scoop a national honour and become one of the UK’s top 10 favourite outdoor spaces.

Brinton Park in Kidderminster and the Queen Elizabeth II Gardens in Bewdley are among 1,883 UK green spaces awarded the prestigious Green Flag award – the mark of a quality park or green space – in July.

Brinton Park, which has just seen a friends group set up to look after it, also received the much coveted additional Green Heritage Site Accreditation for the management of the historic features.

Now people throughout the UK are being given the chance to vote for their favourite Green Flag park in the annual People’s Choice Awards.

People can go to www.greenflagaward.org, find the parks on the map and click the voting button to show their support.

Voting is now open and closes September 30, with the top 10 sites being announced on October 16.

Councillor Juliet Smith, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Community Protection said: “We are extremely proud of all our parks and green spaces which provide local residents and tourists with a wide variety of outdoor spaces to enjoy all year round.

“I hope as many people use this opportunity to vote for Brinton Park or QEII Gardens. We may be a relatively small district but let’s show the country just how much we love our parks here in Wyre Forest.”

Councillor Rebecca Vale, Cabinet Member for Operational Services: “Our staff work very hard keeping Brinton Park and QE II Gardens in tip top condition.

“I would urge everyone who lives and visits Wyre Forest to take this opportunity to get behind our Green Flag parks and put us on the map.”
