PEOPLE can sometimes think that the latest fashion is a bit rubbish but models in Hereford took it to a new level by making clothes out of rubbish.

The Hereford Community Clean Up Group ran its own Rubbish Fashion Show in High Town on Saturday.

Willing volunteers took to the catwalk in their finest clothes made out of litter and rubbish collected in and around Hereford.

Emma Jones organised, produced and directed what turned out to be a well attended event which was sponsored by Helping Hands from Ledbury.

Also supporting the event were the organisers behind the Stop The Drop campaign from Herefordshire Council.

The campaign aims to educate the public to take more responsibility for their waste by not dropping litter and encouraging volunteers to participate in community litter picks.

And 112 people signed their litter pledge on Saturday.

The catwalk was donated by The Courtyard Theatre in Hereford and a raffle held for Megan Baker House near Leominster raised more than £150.

The event aimed to raise awareness of litter. The Hereford Community Clean Up Group was set up a year ago by Emma, who had noticed that litter was getting worse in Hereford city.

Joined by Andrew Wood, they regularly organise litter picks in and around the city.

The group has inspired other towns to set up their own litter groups including one in Ross-on-Wye.

The Stop the Drop Litter Campaign has also had businesses sign up, who pledge to keep their area clean and tidy.

Recent businesses to get involved include Asda Hereford, Vision Gelpack Ltd, Hereford and Leominster Railway Stations, Curry’s PC World, S & A Produce, Sainsbury’s, The Beefy Boys, Philip Morris, TK Maxx, WH Smith, Oakchurch, Court Farm Tillington, De Koffie Pot, The Left Bank and Waitrose.

Barry Durkin, cabinet member for transport and regulatory services, said: “It’s fantastic to see so many businesses signing up and supporting the Stop the Drop campaign.

“It’s everyone’s responsibility to keep Herefordshire clear of litter and we’d like to encourage more businesses to sign up to the litter pledge to demonstrate their commitment to achieving this aim that can only enhance their businesses.”
