THE Worcester-based full mask company, Vamos Theatre, will be developing their Youth Theatre, this September.

And the group has already been running workshops in schools throughout Worcester, “meeting talented young people we hope will join the new group”.

The workshops have seen Vamos Theatre’s Creative Producer Honor Hoskins and Youth Theatre Director Daniel Hill work with over one hundred young people from various schools, “giving students a crash course into Vamos Youth Theatre’s unique opportunities”.

A spokesman said: “Students had the opportunity to wear the iconic masks, learn the basics of full mask performance as well as explore physical ensemble-based theatre skills. The workshops also gave young people the opportunity to ask questions and gain some early career advice from the Vamos Theatre team.”

Local education providers are singing Vamos’s praises

John Plant Head of Drama at Bishop Perownes C of E College said: “Of the many arts companies and practitioners which our students are lucky enough to work with each year we count Vamos as our most effective and most valued collaboration.

“We are hoping that as a result of the recruitment workshop many more of our students will be fortunate enough to gain places in the Vamos Youth Theatre“

Vamos has been a been touring full mask theatre nationally and internationally since 2006.

The spokesman added: “A Vamos Theatre show is wordless, telling its story through physical communication, supported by strong visual design and an original soundtrack. A much loved theatre company throughout the region with shows like Finding Joy, A Brave Face and The Best Thing, pulling in audiences at the Swan Theatre, Artrix Arts Centre and Malvern Theatres.”

Vamos Youth Theatre is for young people, aged 13-21 years old, who love theatre. For details, email vyt@vamostheatre.co.uk
