WITHOUT doubt the number one issue that fills my inbox at the moment is crime and anti-social behaviour.

Over the last few months in particular there has been a lot of concern locally about this, with a significant part of this focusing around car crime.

As part of 'My Plan' for Halesowen & Rowley Regis, tackling crime and anti-social behaviour is an important priority for me. It is an issue which I am contacted about on a regular basis, and one which I know many people have concerns about.

Nearly 500 people responded to my recent crime survey which has highlighted trends, hotspots and information that may be useful to the police.

I have met with both the inspectors that cover Halesowen & Rowley Regis to discuss the findings of this survey, to see what work is currently being undertaken to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, and then how we can work together on a plan.

One thing I especially want to do is give local residents some reassurance on the work police are doing. They have made significant progress on a number of cases which have resulted in arrests and charges being brought against individuals and car crime gangs.

Secondly the importance of reporting crime and anti-social behaviour cannot be stressed enough. I know from speaking with many residents myself that there is a growing feeling that reporting criminal activity is a waste of time.

Every piece of information the police receive is recorded, and kept on their system.

Any piece of information, no matter how trivial it may seem, may be the missing piece of the jigsaw that may help solve a crime. It’s also important because it’s used to create an accurate picture of what is actually going on, so local residents can hold the police to account if they don’t believe that things are being dealt with properly.

With the information from my survey and working with local community groups, councillors, and the police I will be doing all I can to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour so that local residents feel safer and more secure.
