TWO intrepid teachers from Haybridge High School and Sixth Form in Hagley will be skydiving to raise funds for the Mental Health Foundation this weekend.

Jonathan Martin, PE teacher, and Julie Rudd, pastoral support coordinator, have teamed up to make their first-ever parachute jump.

The duo hope to raise both funds and awareness for the charity that provides mental health first aid training to professionals.

Mr Martin said: “We wanted to help fund this fantastic national charity – the Mental Health Foundation – and also raise the profile of our school’s Mental Health Action Group at the same time.

"Mental and emotional wellbeing of students is very much on our agenda and anything we can do to make seeking help as easy and effective as possible is worth doing.”

Colleagues, friends and students have sponsored the pair via their JustGiving page, and the so far they have raised £850 towards a target of £1,000.

“Every penny helps this great charity,” said Mrs Rudd.

“It would be amazing to reach our target of course but we’ve already had success in that we are now talking about mental health widely as a school community and that has to be a good thing."

The jump will take place at the Black Nights Parachute centre in Lancaster on July 14th.
