COUNCIL chiefs have admitted they are powerless to stop drivers parking in allocated disabled pays inside Workman Gardens.

Whilst drivers are warned that the six bays are for people with blue badges, no parking order is in place to stop anyone going there.

Last week, two of the six disabled parking bays were being used by drivers without a blue badge.

Christine Baxter, parking services manager for Wychavon, said: “We received a report last week that two of the six disabled parking bays inside Workman Gardens were being used by drivers without a blue badge.

"Those bays are not currently part of a parking order, so we’re unable to take the normal enforcement action, and rely on drivers being considerate. We will monitor the situation and consider if adjusting the parking order is appropriate.”

It came after local resident Michael Harper said that he could not park in the bays because they were always full.

He added that his wife had dementia and he had been recommended to go to Workman Gardens to help her relieve stress and boredom.
