An intrepid Hereford photographer braved sub-zero temperatures as low as minus 60 degrees in a skiing expedition across Greenland.

Peter Masters, who also owns Skinzophrenic Tattoos and Body Piercing in Aubrey Street, took part in the challenge to raise funds for Blackmarston School.

Peter said: "It was the most hardcore thing I have ever done in my life. It absolutely shattered me.”

He was inspired to take part in the mission after an army captain dropped in to his tattoo studio for an ink of the Antarctica and encouraged him to take part.

Before the expedition, Peter was put through his paces at a training course in Norway.

He completed the 27-day adventure with a team of six throughout May. Battling sub-zero temperatures, Peter and his team experienced a temperature low of minus 60 with wind chill.

The team had to carry their food, fuel and accommodation for the length of the trip, weighing in at 95 kilos.

Peter and his fellow explorers experienced three storms during their expedition, one being so severe that it destroyed Peter’s tent, causing him to be buried within in it under piles of snow.

A talented photographer, Pete kept a photo record of his trip and is now in the process of editing his photos with the hope of collecting his work into a book to guide others contemplating similar adventures.

It is not the first time Pete has travelled to extreme places for his love of photography.

Last year Peter visited Mosul in Afghanistan where he recorded life on the front line where Iraqi forces were fighting to retake the city back from Isis.

Commenting on the physical strain of his latest adventure, Peter said: "It was worse than being chased by Isis!"

Looking forwards, Peter hopes one day to make the trek across the South Pole, but for the time being he is keen to rest and concentrate on his photography.
