IT was Christmas light switch-on day at Evesham’s The Valley shopping centre last night (Thursday November 23) and this year it was Kajagoogoo’s lead singer Limhal who did the honours.

The 80s pop star, who rose to fame with hits such as ‘Too Shy’ and ‘Never Ending Story’, also performed for crowds at the retail and leisure destination, which includes local attractions the Evesham Vale Light Railway and The Valley Adventure Castle.

The event was hosted by Touch FM’s morning show presenters Ollie and Si and included other performances from rock group Chasing Deer, singer songwriter Matt Bate and Evesham Stagecoach Performing Arts Group. Santa himself also made a special appearance.

The Christmas light switch-on marks the launch of late night shopping for the festive period at The Valley, with shops such as Fat Face, Barbour and Julian Charles open till 8pm on selected dates throughout December.

Discussing the event, Paul James, centre manager at The Valley, said: “The Christmas light switch-on is undoubtedly one of our favourite events of the year and marks the start of the busy Christmas period for our retailers and shoppers.

“And with 80s stars, up and coming acts, local radio favourites and of, course, Santa himself all in attendance, this year was the biggest and best yet.”
