RESIDENTS are being invited to step back in time this weekend at the Transport Museum in Wythall.

The museum is running its classic buses one last time this year, on Saturday, October 28, into the early evening so that visitors can sample the atmosphere of twilight on the buses.

Museum chairman, Dave Taylor, said: “This weekend is also the end of our season, after Sunday we close the museum until the end of March 2018 and Saturday is the last chance to ride on our buses.

"We are open later to give the day a bit of atmosphere which the visitors love. Vintage buses with vintage light bulbs flickering in the evening twilight is something completely different to experience."

He added: “During the close season Wythall will be undertaking some substantial building work with one of our large display halls being refurbished with a new roof and insulated walls at a cost of £90,000.

"The hall was originally built in the late 80s and suffers from a leaking roof and condensation, not good for storing treasured heritage vehicles. Without the valuable financial support of our visitors this work would not be possible.”

The museum is located in Chapel Lane, Wythall just off the M42 Junction 3 towards the south of Birmingham.

It is run entirely by volunteers and is home to more than 90 buses and a unique collection of battery electric milk floats and bread vans.
