A BEWDLEY man has appeared in court today (September 22) charged with the murder of a “devoted father”.

Shaun William Dewey went before Birmingham Crown Court this morning following the incident which saw 45-year-old Andrew Owen killed during an altercation at an address in Cherry Close, Bewdley on Sunday (September 17) night.

Dewey, who is aged 30 and lives on the street, is also accused of causing grievous bodily harm to a 53-year-old man in the same incident.

The case was adjourned until November 6 and he was remanded in custody.

The devastated family of Mr Owen paid tribute to him earlier this week, saying he would be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In a statement, they said: “Andrew was a devoted son, father, nephew, cousin and friend who was much loved by many.

“Family meant such a lot to him and he was a loving and proud father. He was so kind hearted and would go out of his way for anyone and everyone.

“Known as a hard worker, he was a very keen fisherman and loved to spend his spare time fishing. His loss leaves a huge gap in our lives and he will be dearly missed.”

Shocked neighbours told the Shuttle that a family of three had only moved into the house where the incident happened three days before.
