DRIVERS are asking "is this the worst road in Worcester?" after highways workers only resurfaced half of it, leaving the rest in a shocking state.

These photographs show Brickfields Road and nearby pavements full of lumps and bumps, dips, cracks and potholes which are driving some motorists round the bend.

One motorist said his exhaust had fallen off while driving over the road and he now refuses to drive on it at all, preferring to walk instead. Another resident said the road was like a 'rumble track' while one joked he had lost a filling because of the vibrations.

The upper part of the road, from the junction of Walnut Avenue (heading towards Warndon), has been resurfaced but the lower end near Blackpole Road where the shops are based has not.

Shaun Knox, aged 50, of Brickfields Road, Worcester, of Shaun Phase Electrics said: "The state of the road is absolutely disgusting. They have tarmacked the best part of the road and not the worst part. I feel every bump in my Mini. The suspension is a bit more robust in my van but I still feel it. I'm totally shocked they have resurfaced the wrong half of the road."

One driver, who declined to be named, said: "If you drove along it, you may agree that it is the worst road in Worcester.

"It could be used as a rumble test track for car manufacturers, it is that bad.

"Why have they resurfaced the top half of Brickfields Road, but have not resurfaced the bottom section by the shops which is very dangerous and in serious need of resurfacing?"

Marlon Vella, aged 19, of Brickfields, Worcester, said the road was so bad the exhaust had fallen off his 1969 Mini and it was fortunate his dad was a mechanic.

"I was driving down here the other day and my exhaust hit off the ground and came off. They've done the top of the road but they haven't done down here which I thought was stupid.

"The top bit of the road (the section they resurfaced) wasn't even that bad. It's annoying. The vibrations pop the rivets on my dad's recovery truck. No way will I drive along here now. I walk."

Gareth Hobbs, 45, owner of Hobbo's Barbers said: "It was around two weeks ago they did the other half. I would like to see all the roads done and the paths tidied up. They keep patching it up but they don't do the full job. This is the worst I have seen it in five years.

"We have a lot of senior citizens and they're often tripping on these paths. I'm concerned about both the road and the path. They patched one bit up and it just sank."

Alesia Dubanevic, shop manager at the One Stop Shop, said: "They should have resurfaced the whole road but they have only done the top."

A spokesman for Worcestershire County Council which is responsible for Highways said the authority was looking into the issue.
