A MAN in his 60s was left requiring hospital treatment after he was punched in the face and kicked on the floor during an alleged racist attack in Redditch.

The incident happened between 4.50am and 5.10am on Friday, August 18, when the victim was walking up Melbury Way, in the direction of the YMCA.

An unknown man is reported to have approached the victim, shouting and asking for money, at which point the victim has stated he does not speak fluent English and did not understand.

The offender is reported to have racially abused the victim, before punching him and causing the man to fall to the floor.

While on the floor, the victim has been kicked several times, causing serious facial injuries that have required hospital treatment.

The offender is believed to have been picked up by an unknown small, white vehicle and left the scene in the direction of Rickyard Lane. He is described as a tall, black man with short hair, slim build and around 25-years-old.

PC Penny Hatton from West Mercia Police said: "This was a particularly nasty and unprovoked assault that has caused serious injuries to the victim and left them understandably shaken.

"We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed anything to do with this incident, especially anybody with information on the suspect or vehicle used to leave the area.

"If you have any details to pass on, please call 101 and ask for myself, quoting incident number 468s of 18 August."
