A STAFF member from an opticians in Worcester has walked his way to more than £1,500 in donations for Macmillan Cancer Support after trekking the entire Pembrokeshire coastal path.

Alan Richards, store director of Specsavers, in Broad Street, completed the 186-mile-long trail in a successful effort to boost the store’s fundraising total for the charity, which provides specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer.

This latest challenge follows a charity golf day held at Bransford Golf Club last month, where four members of staff played 72 holes in 16 hours.

Mr Richards said: "Following the coastal walk, our fundraising total for Macmillan has flown past the £2,500 mark.

"The walk was really tough, especially doing it on my own, but it was worth it to raise so much money for a charity as worthy as Macmillan."

The national trail begins in St Dogmaels in the north and ends in Amroth in the south with a range of challenging terrain in between, as well as stunning coastal views.

"I’m so grateful to everyone who has sponsored me on this walk and to those who have contributed to our fundraising total. Sadly, cancer is something that has affected too many of us, but by raising money for Macmillan, we can help provide specialist care for those who are in desperate need of it.

"The fundraising will continue in the coming months and I’d like to encourage as many people as possible to visit our JustGiving page at justgiving.com/fundraising/alan-richards7 to donate."
